What are good Christmas number puzzles for adults?
The best Christmas number puzzles for adults are short, have one rule, and end on a clear "done": a single path through every tile that hits a festive sum. Most holiday puzzle pages for grown-ups are word searches and riddles. These three are logic boards you play on the page, and each one has exactly one answer.
How the three holiday boards work
The rule is Sumthread's rule. Start on S. Move up, down, left or right, never diagonally, never back onto a tile you used. Keep a running sum. When it hits the first target, that tile becomes a checkpoint and the count starts again from zero.
- Dec 25, 3×3: targets 12 then 25. The month, then the day. The gentlest one.
- Dec 24, 3×4: targets 12 then 24. Twelve tiles, every number between 1 and 5.
- Dec 31, 4×4: 12, 31, then 20 and 27. It spells the turn of the year into 2027.
One rule, three dates, one answer each.
Christmas Eve 2026 is Thursday, December 24, and New Year's Eve is Thursday, December 31. The boards do not change on those days. They are here all season.
Who this is not for
If you want a puzzle the whole table can shout answers at, this is the wrong pick: it is a one-person game. Crosswords, charades or a group quiz suit a crowd better. And if you dislike arithmetic of any kind, a picture puzzle such as a nonogram will feel kinder.

Honest limits
- The app has no holiday theme. These three boards exist only on this page.
- The app's numbers stay small, mostly single digits. It trains steady adding, not big sums.
- iPhone only. There is no Android version.
- One choice we made for this page: no clock and no score. Solved is the only result.
A Christmas afternoon, picture it
The dishes are soaking. Someone has fallen asleep in front of a film. You have ten minutes and a phone. You solve the Dec 25 board, then try the Dec 31 one and overshoot 31 by four. You back up two tiles, find the 9 you skipped, and the year rolls over on the last tile. Then you open Sumthread's Daily Thread, because there is a fresh board on Christmas Day too.
Holiday puzzle questions
What are good Christmas number puzzles for adults?
Short logic puzzles with one clear rule work best around a busy table: number paths, Kakuro, small sudoku. The three boards on this page take a few minutes each and need only addition.
Do these puzzles have one answer?
Yes. We checked every possible path from the START tile by computer, and each board has exactly one solution.
How do the targets work?
Your running sum must hit the first target exactly, then it resets to zero and counts toward the next one. The last target has to land on the last tile. If you overshoot, tap an earlier tile to back up.
Is Sumthread free?
Yes. The App Store page lists no in-app purchases, and the listing says there are no ads, no account and no third-party tracking. It plays fully offline.
Does Sumthread have Christmas puzzles?
No. The app has no holiday theme. It has a Daily Thread, one fresh 4×4 board each day, so there is a new board on Christmas Day like any other day, plus five collections from 3×3 up to 4×5.
Can I play on a plane or at a relative's house with no Wi-Fi?
Sumthread runs fully offline once installed. Once this page has loaded, the three boards keep working in that open tab without a connection.
